Northern Thailand ceramics
As the ceramics of northern Thailand were not exported they are less well known outside the country. A few of these wares have been found at sites outside the former kingdom of Lanna. Current evidence suggests that the peak of artistic production was from the early 15th century to mid-16th century.
Like those at Si Satchanalai and Sukhothai, the Lanna kilns’ probably succumbed to invasions by the Burmese in the 16th century. All the main Lanna kilns are represented in the collection: Phayao, Sankampaeng, Kalong, Wang Nua, Nan and Phan.
