Pottery and lacquer inspired decoration

Pottery vessels were either made as replicas of lacquerware or as copies of bronzes, with glossy glazes, often adorned with hunting scenes. The care and pleasing decoration together with the skilful overall finish make it hard to accept that these wares were intended ‘only’ for the tomb. However, the materials employed would not have allowed any other use, the unfired pigments would rub off when touched and  the green and amber-brown glazes were poisonous due to their lead content.
