Vase

Liao dynasty wares hold a curious place in Chinese ceramic tradition. This dynasty origin was the Khitan pastoral tribal people, whose territory covered the northern Hebei and Shanxi, as well as Manchuria and Inner Mongolia. This vase is a fine example of the independent spirit of the Liao potters. The shape may ultimately derive from a certain type of late Tang green-glazed vase with dished mouth.
